LeRay de Chaumont 2015

Graves marked by the LeRay de Chaumont Chapter of the DAR in 2015.



On 10 October 2015 a dedication ceremony was held at Pinckney Corners cemetery near Copenhagen, NY. This ceremony celebrated the restoration of the cemetery, the placing of a historical marker provided by the William C Pomeroy Foundation and honored the veterans buried there. These included 2 Revolutionary war, 18 War of 1812 and 4 Civil War veterans. The LeRay de Chaumont chapter, DAR, placed markers on the Revolutionary War graves.






Oliver Bissell



Oliver Bissell was born 13 October 1753 in East Windsor, Hartford, CT and died 7 April 1849 near Pinckney Corners, Lewis County, NY. He married Catherine Van Horn, who is buried with him. He is listed with the DAR, A010545 and has a memorial on Findagrave, 115119281. He served as a private in the Massachusetts militia under Captain Nathan Peters and Colonels Timothy Danielson and Learned and was in the retreat from Long Island.




Joseph Jeffers



Joseph Jeffers was born 20 August 1760 in New London, New London, CT and died 28 June 1845 in Lewis county, NY. In 1782 he married Eunice Giddings who is buried near him. She was born 13 December 1763 and died 25 July 1826. He is listed with the DAR, A061958, and has a memorial on Findgrave, 66903437. He was a private in the Massachusetts line for more than two years, serving in Captain Bartlett's and Lieutenant Colonel Millen's companies in Colonel James Wesson's regiment. Private Jeffers saw action at the battles of Ft. Stanwix, Stillwater and Monmouth.
