William Barney

William Barney was born 1762 at Taunton, MA and died 16 July 1834 at the Town of Rutland, Jefferson, NY. He enlisted in Massachusetts on 18 June 1778 and served as a private in Captain Cooper’s company, Colonel Bradford’s regiment until 18 March 1779. A total of 9 months in the MA Line.

On 10 February 1784 at Taunton, MA, he was married to Mary Crapo of Freetown, Bristol, MA by Jesse Bullock, Esq.

William received a pension commencing 15 April 1818 of $8 per month for his service during the war. In 1820, two children were living at home, Laura, age 15, and John aged 11. William died 16 July 1834 and Mary applied for a widow's pension on 31 December 1838. At this time, she was 73 years old. She received pension W15675 and was allowed $30 per year, starting 4 March 1836. Mary died in Rutland, NY 9 March 1841.

Nathaniel Peck

Nathaniel Peck was born in Connecticut on 6 August 1761 at Town of Barrington, Bristol county. His family later moved to Amherst, Hampshire, MA. While living there, he enlisted on July or August 1779, serving as quartermaster sergeant under Colonel Porter for 1 month. In July 1780 he volunteered for three months as a private in Captains Eli Parker's and Alvord's companies, Col Murray's MA regiment. He also served 3 months as minuteman in Captain Eli Parker's company.
On 23 November 1786, at New London, CT, he married Mary/Molly Weeks. She was born 13 March 1768. After Nathaniel's dearth, Mary applied for and was granted, 19 November 1845, a Widows pension W18749. She died 21 February 1856 at Champion, NY. Nathaniel moved from Amherst, MA to New London, CT, then Whittingham, Windham, VT and in 1811 to Champion, Jefferson, NY. He died 25 June 1839. He and Mary are buried next to each other in Hillside cemetery, Champion, NY.

Nathaniel Plumb

Nathaniel Plumb, son of Samuel & Grace (Babcock) Plumb was born on April 4th, 1760 in Stonington, Connecticut. He enlisted in April 1775 with Captain James Eldridge's Company. In April 1777 he reenlisted for a year with Captain Darrow's Company of Connecticut’s 1st Regiment. He received a War Pension – Land Warrant for his service. Patriot Plumb married Anna Langworthy on August 19th, 1781. She was the daughter of Sanford & Anna (Babcock) Langworthy and she born November 4th 1764. After the war they first settled in Oneida County, New York and their son George was born there. In 1802 they moved to Brownville and in 1811 their youngest son Charles was born. Patriot Plumb and his wife, Anna, were one of the first settlers in Brownville. Sometime between 1812 – 1814, they built their home, which was about 3/10 mile out Perch River Road beyond the five corners in the Village of Brownville. Altogether, they had twelve children. Nathaniel Plumb’s oldest son, George, served as the Mayor (President) of the Village of Brownville from 1864-1866. Patriot Nathaniel Plumb died on December 2nd 1841 in Brownville and his wife Anna died on June 5th 1852, also in Brownville. Both are buried here at the Brownville Cemetery and their graves are the first graves to the left of the main driveway.

Graves, Lewis

Lewis Graves was born 7 November 1755 at Durham, CT. He moved to Canaan, Columbia, NY and enlisted in the New York Milita, serving several short enlistments. In 1775 he enlisted for two years and served under Captains Hezekiah Baldwin, Roswell Beebe and Lothrop Allen. He served for one month in 1775 in Captain Elijah Bostwick’s company, Colonel William B. Whiting’s Regiment and was at the Battle of Saratoga. 1778 saw Lewis serving for 9 months in Colonel Weissenfal’s regiment, fighting at the Battle of Monmouth. Starting on 15 October 1781, he served 3 months in Captain Elijah Bostwick’s company.

On 21 December 1780, Lewis married Elizabeth Steele at New Cannan, NY. Lewis died 10 May 1816 in Denmark, Lewis, NY. Elizabeth received a widow’s pension, W17030, of $89.60 per annum, having applied 8 June 1837. Elizabeth died 9 January 1852 and is buried with Lewis in the John Betts/ Copenhagen-Deer River Road cemetery.
